The 3rd ‘episode’ of Little Bookclub, eep! Everything Everything, written by Nicola Yoon.
Oh how wonderfully basic I am: Everything, Everything. I have to admit, I got swept along in the hype of this book. But I have no shame whatsoever. It is so wonderful and I am just a sucker for stories like this one.
‘Everything, Everything’ is about a girl, Maddie Whitler, who has immunodeficiency (SCID), also known as “bubble baby disease”. She is basically allergic to the world and hasn’t left her house in years. The only people she has contact with are her mother, her nurse and from time to time she talks to her teachers through Skype. That all changes when a family moves in next door and she “meets” the hot skater boy Olly Bright.
Since she can’t leave the house, they start messaging each other and while you read about them falling in love, I guarantee you will fall in love with these characters as well.
‘Everything, Everything’ is the perfect book to read during a lazy day by the beach (which is what I did) or a rainy, dark autumn day. It is the kind of book you just can’t put away, because it is simply so captivating.
When you first start reading the book it seems like you know what will happen next, but then Nicola Yoon starts toying with your head and the exact opposite thing is happening.
The ending was heartbreakingly beautiful. It will definitely leave you shocked for a while, in a “what just happened?!” kind of way. If you love plot twists, this is definitely a book for you. Don’t like to read? Don’t worry, the movie is out now! With Amanda Sterlenberg (known for playing Rue in The Hunger Games) as Maddy Whitler and Nick Robinson (known for playing Ryder in Melissa & Joey and Zach in Jurassic World) as Olly Bright.
